Abstract
Our research project deals with indoor positioning of non-cooperative, low-bandwidth mobile 2G phones using a distributed sensor network. In contrast to most existing geolocation approaches that basically rely on received signal strength (RSS) information, we try to exploit signal propagation delays to locate the mobile transmitter. Hence, estimation accuracy is influenced by various properties like signal modulation and bandwidth, multipath propagation, noise and interference which had to be identified. In this paper we present our time difference of arrival (TDoA) localization method, we show simulation results of some exemplary impairments and finally demonstrate the feasibility of our method by presenting the results of our measurement campaign.
