Abstract
The Charge-pump Phase-Locked-based Pulse Charge System (CPL-PCS) is proposed in this paper. The circuit topology of the proposed CPL-PCS is the same as that of the Charge-Pump Phase-Locked Loop (CPLL), which means that the proposed CPL-PCS can have many inherent abilities which CPLLs have, such as auto-tracking, auto-locking, and high accuracy. A complete charging process, consisting of three sub-processes: the bulk current charging process, the pulsed current charging process and the pulsed float charging process, can be automatically implemented by using these above inherent characteristics of CPLL. Finally, a design example for a 700mAh Li-ion battery is built to assess the CPL-PCS´s performance. Experimental results show that the CPLL is really suitable for carry out a battery pulse charge system.
