Abstract :
Based on complex charge simulation method, this paper presents three-dimensional electrostatic models of a suspension insulator with clearing, pollution, dry belt and local arc appearing along insulator surface. By calculating the electric field of the suspension insulator surface, the shape of the suspension insulator´s influence on local arc development is analyzed. The relation between the shape of the insulator and the development of the local arc is studied. The process of local arc development and the edge of the suspension insulator influences greatly the development of the local arc. The results can provide a theoretical basis for the shape of insulator
