Abstract
Assignment of proper weights to measurements remains an important problem in power system state estimation. The weights are commonly specified by users based on assumed accuracies of conventional measurements. Since such historical information may not be available for new kinds of measurements such as those received from Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), weight assignment for such measurements becomes a challenge. This paper investigates possible alternatives and suggests two different approaches to address this problem. Simulated scenarios using IEEE 14-bus system as well as laboratory tests are used to illustrate the application of suggested approaches.
