Abstract :
Fluorescence induced in tree leaves (12 deciduous and 16 evergreen trees) by an Ar laser was measured by a multi-channel spectrometer. The spectra had peaks at around 430 nm, 530 nm and 600 nm as well as those of chlorophyll fluorescence (685 nm and 740 nm). The ratio between the two peaks of chlorophyll fluorescence changed with chlorophyll content in the leaves. Seasonal changes of the fluorescence spectra showed characteristic properties for individual plant species, therefore, knowing terrestrial vegetation, measurement of the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) is a useful means for remote-sensing of the ecological and physiological status of plants
