Abstract
This paper deals with a general formulation of the adaptive interference cancellation and also points out the issues arising in the adaptive process for some of the classic adaptive algorithms. Based on a general expression for the cost function of an adaptive filter, we derive the orthogonalization equation and we place it into the adaptive interference cancellation context. The paper derives necessary supplementary conditions for ensuring the correct operation of the canceller and verifies them for known adaptive algorithms.
