Abstract :
This paper describes an optical receiver with integrated PIN photodiode and voltage-controlled resistor-based transimpedance in 0.6 mum BiCMOS technology. Both current conveyor and voltage amplifier topology are used. Sensitivity range is increased by using a variable-gain voltage amplifier. Frequency bandwidth enhancement is enabled by applying a fixed-gain voltage amplifier and a current biasing of the current conveyor. A linearity error smaller than 2.8%, a sensitivity range of 541 (54.7 dB), an offset voltage less than 13.7 mV, a power consumption less than 4.3 mW, a frequency bandwidth up to 311 MHz, a slew-rate up to 386 V/mus, and a transimpedance bandwidth product up to 126 TOmegaHz are achieved.
