Doodling with domestic energy consumption data - the design of the Mozambican Energy Data Centre

This paper analyses the composition of electricity consumption records and cross-references them with statistical data produced by and for the energy sector, and with socioeconomic and demographic surveys. Graphics are used to display electricity consumption patterns and trends, for the City of Maputo, and possible links with other energy sources and household characteristics. This paper forms the basis for recommendations on the structure of a Mozambican Energy Data Centre that will serve both statistical and research purposes. The possible expansion of this initiative to a proposed Southern African Urban Energy Database is also discussed.
