  • Abstract
The features of time difference-based traveling wave distance protection is presented first, then the basic principle of traveling wave distance protection is analyzed comprehensively. The core components, including traveling wave head extraction method and GPS timing part are analyzed in detail, using polarity information of traveling wave to distinguish internal faults from external faults and the method of avoiding voltage dead zone are proposed, and the factors that affect the protection are considered. All these techniques make it possible to research and develop time difference-based traveling wave distance protection device.
