Abstract :
The essential characteristics of a modern transformer are high efficiency and reliability in operation. Various factors determine the reliability during service. It depends basically on proper design, workmanship, materials and components to be used in the transformer insulation. A compact optimal design of the insulation contributes to the reduction of transformer size and is the most effective way to achieve a high efficiency. The application of corrugated board offers the advantage of a compact and optimal insulation design for modern transformers, especially for high voltage and extra high voltage transformers. Besides, there are advantages in manufacturing technology and hence possibilities of cost saving. The paper illustrates the basic principle of the advantages in applying corrugated board for HI-LO gap insulation arrangements and introduces the concept of a preassembled insulation package for winding block production
