Abstract :
This paper outlines research which has been carried out into the development of a technique for the automatic identification of the occurrence of certain types of distortions occurring in a VoIP network. This type of a technique could be used as a pre-processor for a non-intrusive perceptual speech quality measurement technique. The proposed technique implements a pitch synchronous analysis of voiced speech segments to automatically identify the location of distortions in a speech signal, which typically occur in VoIP networks due to packet replacement techniques. A detailed explanation of the operation of the algorithm is presented and the results of performance evaluation tests are outlined.
