Abstract :
A study on microwave propagation over six links in the 6-11 GHz frequencies was conducted over marshy, hilly and built-up areas of Assam Valley to study the terrain and environmental effects on microwave frequencies. The paper highlights occurrence of a high rate of blackouts in 6-7 GHz LOS paths running over built up areas. The fading analyses made in association with sodar returns show that hot-cold airmass fronts generate large fadings. The rain attenuation at 11 GHz shows sensitivity to dropsizes of 3.5 mm diameter and above and is generally higher than in the CCIR model
