Abstract
Gate limitation in a hydroelectric plant can deteriorate the performance of the system by causing large overshoot and settling time. In this paper, a fuzzy controller is used to cope with the problem of saturation in an isolated hydroelectric generating unit. A linear stable model of the system under consideration is developed to study the load and frequency control problem and the performance of the system is studied when the governor controlled gate is subjected to saturation. A fuzzy controller is then incorporated into to system to improve the performance. Simulation results obtained show the effectiveness of the controller.
