Abstract :
The Monash FMCW radar has been successful in detecting and locating defects in natural and man-made dielectrics (eg. defects in sawmill wood), with a range resolution, of 2 cm in wood. The authors show how to improve this resolution and provide polarimetric capability, which is important in anisotropic and optically active materials. The large bandwidth requirement has required a redefinition of VSWR and its measurement
