Abstract :
Distributed positioning algorithms may assist real-time remote ocean observing systems and applications by providing position information of sensors which form the underwater acoustic network under deployment for area identification purposes of the sensed event. A new distributed positioning algorithm which do not rely on the existence of any previous infrastructure is presented in this work. Finally the results of an impact study of the main physical water properties and their variations on the performance of selected distributed positioning algorithms are presented. We argue that water physical properties must be embedded in the positioning algorithm to perform best.
