Abstract :
This paper reviews the performance of present UK overhead power line overcurrent protective devices (expulsion fuses, liquid fuses and current-limiting fuses) and argues the case for their continued use in the majority of applications. The paper then goes on to highlight two more recently developed devices-the full-range fuse and the automatic sectionalising link-each capable of bringing a higher level of overall performance to existing power systems on a selective basis
