Abstract
The IEEE 802.11 architecture offers multiple independent frequency channels. Efficient exploitation of the available frequency spectrum is one of the most promising approaches to increase network capacity. In this paper we propose an heuristic evaluation of network capacity that takes account of the dynamic nature of traffic. We use this method to derive static frequency allocations that maximize capacity. Numerical evaluations show our method can provide significant gains compared to the widely adopted received signal strength approach.
