Abstract
Oakdale Batteries Limited has developed an innovative state of the art power system which includes a lead acid battery and on-board charger system to give a maintenance free opportunity charging capability for electric wheelchairs. The requirements for the charger are divided into three categories: performance, user, and design/manufacture. The Oakdale battery technology and recharging technology are described and the operational characteristics discussed
