Abstract
The quality of service (QoS) for multimedia traffic in the IEEE 802.11 wireless networks is poor due to the high handoff latency and the associated packet loss. In this paper, we build on our previous work and present a novel adaptive scheme based on the received signal strength for improving the quality of the multimedia playout. We utilize the mobility information of individual users and combined mobility information of all wireless users to reduce the inter access point communication and thus provide quality improvement with a reduced overhead. Through extensive simulations we prove that the proposed schemes improve the QoS for multimedia traffic and achieve significant reductions in the overhead involved
