Abstract :
This paper discusses the operational challenges associated with integrating a significant quantity of renewable resources, as evidenced by the addition of 10,000MW of wind generation capacity in the MISO footprint over a five-year period. Early methods for managing wind generation are presented. A practical approach to full market integration for wind and other renewable resources is provided that provides a level playing-field for these resources, as well as the benefits of enhanced reliability efficiency and market transparency which accrue to the entire MISO market. Operational data is analyzed for resources that have chosen this modeling approach during the first nine months of operations.
