Abstract :
As a versatile dopant, Al2O3 is proving to be pivotal in both high power laser and highly nonlinear fiber applications. Due to its ability to raise the optical index but decrease the acoustic index, it plays an important role in manipulating the optical and acoustic properties of fibers with the view of suppressing stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). Three aluminosilicate fibers with different concentrations of Al2O3 were fabricated using the in-house developed chemical-in-crucible technique, a novel gas phase deposition method whereby higher concentrations of Al2O3 can be deposited in the fiber. We investigate the Brillouin gain spectra (BGS) with a change in Al2O3 concentration and with a change in the environmental temperature of the fiber.
