  • Abstract
    It is now becoming increasingly important to integrate several kinds of images collected by different satellite sensors for deriving ever more information about the Earth surface or the atmosphere. In this paper, an improved interpolation method of the low resolution HIRS/2 images using the correlation with the high resolution AVHRR image on board of the meteorological satellite NOAA is proposed. Using this method, the resolution of HIRS/2 images can be improved into the same high resolution of AVHRR image, while the properties of the original HIRS/2 images can be completely kept after the interpolation. As an example of its applications, cloud area information are derived from the interpolated HIRS/2 images, and its usefulness for deriving vertical information about the atmosphere is shown
