Title :
A cartographic problem solving support system in geographical information system
Abstract :
The system described may be viewed as an spatial decision support system (SDSS) in a geographical information system (GIS) involving a knowledge-based approach. Its aim is to compute a map of potentiality for problem solution (showing favourable and unfavourable areas for the problem) with a specification provided by the users using environmental knowledge through an interface characterizing the knowledge and experience of a human expert by means of production rules. The problem solving potentialities are computed by using uncertain and imprecise data, expert system technology (especially inference network technique) and neighbourhood point computation to consider spatial problems. The system is not dedicated to a particular problem. The ease of problem specification and the use of uncertainty allows the simulation of the thinking process of a human expert
