Abstract
The goal of the Ugandan primary school designed for the environment (UPSiDE) project was to provide users of a primary school in the Wakiso district of Uganda with potable water and with electricity. Team UPSiDE followed Gibsonpsilas six steps of systems analysis and expanded on them to include iterations of creating prototypes and testing. After alternative evaluation, Team UPSiDE worked to design a power system with photovoltaic panels, direct current, copper wires, and fluorescent lights, and a water system using rain collection, sand filtration, and solar disinfection. By April 2008, the designs will be completed and tested to meet all initial requirements so that construction of the primary school and the two systems can begin in the summer of 2008.
