Abstract
The paper presents a design of a small VOD server that provides full VCR functions for clients. The design has been implemented on symmetrical multiprocessors equipped with four 150 MHz Pentium processors. The operating systems are Microsoft Windows NT for the server and Windows 95 for clients. The VOD server can control and schedule more than 50 video sessions using a priority scheduling method. It reads a MPEG-1 stream from disks and sends them to clients through the network. The performance of the server is discussed
