Innovations in control and information technologies that can provide a more highly integrated manufacturing environment capable of responding to marketplace demands are described. Specific trends in programming, man-machine interface devices, input/output control, and communications technologies are described and related to the textile manufacturing environment. Some of the trade-offs between system costs and benefits are examined
