Abstract :
As of the case in middle/large cities in China, suburban residential area represents a large scale, high-density construction form. In contrast with urban area, the accessibility and coverage of mass transit network in suburban residential area is usually limited, which can barely be improved in short term. And this brings in some inconvenience to mass transit passengers. In dealing with this, the combination of bicycle and mass transit is an effective approach to extend the service radius of subway stations and enhance the level of service (LOS) of mass transit. Based on an intentions survey of Beijing subway passengers, this paper analyzes bicycle transfer demand and characteristics of mass transit passengers in suburban residential area. Regarding connections between mass transit and other transportation mode, related parameters and measures are also recommended for transportation planning and facility design.
