Abstract
A printed ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna operating within a frequency range of 3.1-5 GHz is proposed for wireless USB dongle applications. The antenna consists of a triangular radiating element with a notch at the center and an L-shaped strip extended from the end of the radiator to reduce the antenna size. The ground plane is etched on the reverse side of the PCB. The vertical strip on the ground plane as well as the horizontal strip extended from the vertical strip can be used for impedance matching. The simulated and measured results show that across the operating bandwidth, the antenna can achieve broad impedance bandwidth with good average gain performance. In addition, a parametric study is conducted to provide antenna engineers with the required information to optimize the antenna.
