  • Abstract
    Storage systems are fast response devices which add flexibility to the control of the microgrid and provide security and economic benefits for the microgrid. The storage systems have major role in short-term and long-term operation of microgrid. In this paper the benefits of a storage system in islanded mode of a microgrid are investigated. The optimal unit scheduling in the microgrid is obtained by solving a long-term unit commitment (UC) problem. A practical model for storage system is utilized. A probabilistic reliability calculation approach is used to find the expected energy not served and accordingly calculate the cost of reliability in the microgrid. A mixed-integer programming (MIP) is used to formulate the problem. Illustrative examples are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method.
