  • Abstract
This paper presents an approach to determine the main parameters used in a double-pulse excitation applied to a piezoceramic ultrasonic transducer to produce a short received signal. A computer simulation is also presented to illustrate the excellent results obtained even when the transducer is not well matched to the backing material nor to the transmission medium. The double-pulse excitation is much easier to generate than the complex excitation waveforms used in the literature for shortening the acoustic pulse. Hence, the electronic circuitry involved is simplified
