Abstract
We explore options for the evolution of WiMedia´s OFDM-based UWB Physical Layer to provide 1-2 Gbps. Starting with a brief review of the current 480 Mbps WiMedia UWB physical layer, we consider first ´simple´ options for expanding capacity and their limitations. We then estimate the channel capacity of multiple antenna UWB systems and evaluate a range of possible methods to achieve the targeted data rates, including a variety of MIMO-based techniques.
