Abstract
A new fault location system using two-terminal or three-terminal currents and voltages is presented in this paper, which can eliminate the errors caused by fault resistance. In the first part, the mathematical model is explained. In the second part, the factors that cause the errors of fault location are analyzed in detail and the methods used to reduce the errors are proposed. In the third part, the hardware structure and functional flow chart are given as well. Finally, the digital simulation results are presented. The results show that the fault locator based on the principle can realize fault location more accurately than conventional ones
