Abstract
A handover initiation criterion, which is based on the length of sequences of lost packets, is proposed for packet mobile radio networks. From the numerical results it is seen that better performance can be obtained, in terms of packet dropping probability and average length of dropped packet sequences, with respect to a typical relative signal strength handover criterion. An improved version of the new algorithm is also proposed
