Abstract :
We review how these problems can be addressed by exploiting the flexibility of femtosecond lasers to structure transparent material. Since femtosecond laser inscription of FBGs does not require photosensitivity, the direct inscription of gratings into active fiber cores allows for monolithic fiber lasers.
