Abstract
This paper presents a new model of how the impedance of ground rods varies with the time-dependent level of the current flowing in the ground rod and the soil itself. This model is based on evaluations of measurements previously performed for breakdown levels in soil, the propagation velocity of soil arcs, and the resistance per unit length of an arc as a function of the current amplitude.
