Abstract :
Economic pressures on industry to automate processes and improve efficiencies have resulted in a steady increase in the number and size of loads that are sensitive to voltage sags. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVRTM) is a power electronic device which has demonstrated its ability to protect sensitive loads. The primary advantage of the DVRTM is that it only needs to be rated for a fraction of the total protected load, thereby yielding a very attractive cost/benefit. There are an increasing number of these loads with ratings much larger than can be accommodated with a single DVRTM module. This paper describes the concept and successful operation of multi-module DVRTM MV systems at a large paper mill and semiconductor manufacturing facilities. Field experience with the world´s first overhead platform-mounted DVRTM MV system is also described
