Abstract
As networks have become larger and services have become more complex, the management of networks and services has become more important and more difficult. Since the traditional network management standards use a centralised client/server paradigm, the processing and traffic burden of a network management system (NMS) server is great. RMON (remote network monitoring) reduces the burden of the NMS server by collecting statistics on the subnetwork attached to it. This paper describes the design and implementation of a Web-based RMON agent system. The proposed Web-based RMON agent allows the manager to control and investigate remotely the capability of the RMON agent, which greatly reduces the burden of the manager in a large network environment
