Abstract :
The T-wave hides valuable information for the repolarization of the ventricles. In this paper we investigate how the variability of various indexes related to the T-wave can be used in order to discriminate young subjects from elderly ones. Experimental results show a clear distinction between those two groups when using information related to the T-wave only. The variability of the T-wave is also used in conjunction with the variability of the heart rate in order to achieve even better categorization. The contribution of this paper is threefold: (i) investigates new indexes for the study of the T-wave, (ii) shows that the discrimination between young and elderly subjects is possible by considering only the variability of the T-wave shape and (iii) shows that the variability of the T-wave shape in combination with the variability of the heart rate can produce even better results.
