Abstract :
The need for a new class of modelling methods is indicated in order to effectively perform business redesign, focussing on the essential characteristics of a business. A model of the essential characteristics leaves the right design freedom to the information and organization experts to do their job in an optimal way, and consequently provides the ideal starting point for business redesign/reengineering projects. One exponent of this new class of methods is presented, called DEMO (dynamic essential modelling of organizations). The theoretical basis of DEMO consists of the distinction between subject and object, the language-philosophical analysis of communication, a well-defined rigorous system concept, and a well-defined conception of system dynamics.<>
