Abstract
This paper presents the results of a study on the linkage between some key aspects of IT investment and firm performance, in Singapore. We have collected information on IT usage from about thirteen hundred firms in Singapore, supplied by CEOs. About half of these firms, have sent in a second round of questionnaires, completed by CIOs. Based on this large database we evaluated IT payoff in two different ways. One is based on CEOs perception of IT payoff. The second is based on a matched-pair analysis of findings from the CIO questionnaires in comparison with firm performance data given by the CEOs. Top management involvement in IT policies, computerization of firms´ primary activities, and investment in IT technological infrastructure were proven to have significant positive association with firm performance. Some other variables, such as electronic linkage with business partners, were not proven to be significantly associated with performance.<>
