Abstract
Based on a scientific and sustainable development perspective, this paper presents an analytical framework of evaluating comprehensively China´s energy utilization in terms of its contribution to economic, ecological and social development during the period from 1978 to 2005. The results show that the energy comprehensive contribution to economic, ecological and social development rises steadily. Specifically, energy consumption has a very strong benefit effect on China´s economic development; Energy-intensive enterprises´ impact on China´s environment deterioration appears strengthened rapidly; owing to energy consumption´s regional unbalanced distribution, the deviation among east, middle and west regional development and their industrial structure are exacerbated, which worsen the imbalance of its social development.
