Unique aspects of the Tollstar solution for electronic road pricing

This paper describes two unique designs of Tollstar´s Toll Collection System involving the use of advanced image processing systems to both detect and classify vehicles by size. One uses 2 curtains of RF beams, the other a broad RF beam structure. The use of phase correlation techniques enables the location of the responding on-board equipment to be established and the correlation between the outputs of these two subsystems enables correctly paying vehicles to pass through a toll area having paid the toll. The system triggers enforcement action on vehicles which do not pay either the correct or any toll
