Abstract :
The propagation of meso- and macrobands of localized plastic deformation across the surface of a solid under loading is studied. It is shown that the meso- and macrobands are observed in materials with non-equilibrium dislocation substructure formed by cold rolling, ultrasonic impact, or equichannel angular pressing. The appearance of mesobands does not depend on the surface condition and is observed after ultrasonic treatment of the surface layer as well as subsequent thermal annealing
