Abstract
The method presented here determines the electromagnetic resonances of dielectric-loaded cavities. The shape of the cavity is arbitrary and it may contain an arbitrarily shaped dielectric body of spatially independent permittivity. This method makes use of the analysis presented in (1) and the equivalence principle (2). Other methods dealing with dielectric inserts (see e.g. (3)), formulate the problem in terms of a three-dimensional system of equations. In comparison to these methods the method introduced here transforms the problem of solving a three-dimensional discontinuity into a two-dimensional problem over the surface of the inserted body, which drastically reduces the size of the involved characteristic matrix. Numerical results are obtained for some cases. The accuracy of the numerical results is checked by plotting the field and current distributions.
