Abstract
This paper presents a numerical approach for the evaluation of different axisymmetric propulsor/afterbody shapes. The Navier-Stokes solver used for this evaluation is compared to sonic experimental data obtained specifically for this purpose. The shapes of the afterbodies are defined parametrically using simple analytical functions. Parametric studies based on a few of the main parameters are presented which give guidance for the design of self-propelled underwater vehicles
