Abstract :
The reliability impact of incorporating an HVDC link in a power transmission system is presented in this paper. Reliability models associated with the bipolar DC link as well as other major components in the system are developed. A wide range of indices are calculated at both the load point and system levels to show the reliability impact of incorporating the DC link in composite systems. A contingency enumeration technique with an equivalent approach is used to determine the reliability indices. The capabilities of the technique and the models presented in the paper are illustrated by considering a small system with parallel DC and AC facilities
