Abstract
This paper investigates the acoustic response of marine vegetation. At the present, this problem seems to be of some interest since few literature exists about wave scattering by submerged vegetation. Furthermore, this matter plays an important role in plenty of scientific and practical applications, concerning environmental and biological studies, but also military and strictly acoustic aspects. The acoustic analysis of the sea-grass leaves was performed by means of a high frequency (1.5÷2.0 MHz) single beam sector scanning sonar. The species of sea-grass under examination was Posidonia oceanica (L) Delile, being an important marine plant which abundantly populates the Mediterranean shallow coastal waters
