Abstract :
In this paper, a finite element model of high speed cutting AISI4340 steel was established. Johnson-Cook(JC) material model and JC fracture criterion were used to simulate the cutting process. Also the influence of rake angle on shear angle and cutting force was investigated. By the Merchant, Lee-Shaffer shear angle formulas and the law of Hideaki KUDO cutting model, simulation results were analyzed and in good agreement with theory .The results have verified the accuracy and credibility of finite element method(FEM) and provided a frame of reference to further study the performance of high speed hard cutting.
