Abstract
Measurements on the backscatter properties of the sea surface have been performed with a coherent 94 GHz experimental monopulse radar. Different environmental conditions have been covered. The use of that type of radar allowed an extensive investigation of different aspects of sea clutter at that frequency band. Range profiles were extracted, the influence of the wave-front direction on the average reflectivity and on the monopulse deviation was investigated and the spectral components of the backscattered signal were determined. The paper discusses the experimental set-up, the evaluation procedures and gives typical results.
