Abstract :
This paper presents the results from measurements on radio wave attenuation and depolarization in the 11, 20 and 30 GHz frequency bands along a 12.6 km terrestrial path, obtained by the Dubna-Intercosmos International Experimental Area during the period 1983-89. The rain attenuation frequency correlation was analyzed and the relationship between the average annual and worst month rain attenuation distributions was estimated. The relationship between cross-polarization discrimination and co-polar rain attenuation was studied. The results were produced by comparison of the experimental data on radio wave attenuation in rainy weather and in multi-path propagation with the calculated ones by applying various prediction methods. Based on the comparison results, the method of LIN [1] proved to give the best accuracy (rms = 21%) in rain attenuation prediction and the expression in [2] yielding multi-path fading probability was specified.
